Maher v. Roe

Ed Maher (CT Commissioner of Social Services) v. Roe (a group of low-income women) -1977

Several low-income women challenged a Connecticut state regulation that banned public funding for abortions that were not medically necessary.

The Court upheld the regulation, stating that equal protection does not require a state participating in the Medicaid program to pay for abortions for poor women simply because it pays for expenses related to childbirth.
